Middle Synk’maa: Cities and Towns

Before succumbing to the rule of the Kingdom of Gallowmoor and the Eastern Synk’maa, the towns and cities of the Middle Synk’maa, and their people, weren’t under a sole ruler or leading faction but living in alliance instead. The lack of definite leadership, surely was one of the main reasons that the troops of the Middle Synk’maa didn’t have much of a chance against the East, when they began their relentless siege.

After the four years of war and the bitter defeat, the Middle Synk’maa was “unified” as a single continental, subordinated kingdom by Gallowmoor, Sorrow’s Den as their capital. The East has never stopped considering or treating the people of the Middle Synk’maa as their underlings and second-rate citizens, a fact that naturally makes the relations challenging and sour. Today, nationalistic mindsets are on the rise in the Middle Synk’maa and anarchistic underground factions are emerging, scheming against the Kingdom of Gallowmoor in the shadows.

Pohjanpirtti - Northern Lodge

The busiest and perhaps the most important port city in the northern half of Synk’maa. In practice, all seafarers traveling northern waters have to visit and do business in Northern Lodge eventually, whether they want to or not.

During the First War, the city was initially allied with the Shadow Kin, but throughout those years its control was often tossed back and forth between the Shadow Kin and the Loyalists. After the Age of Gods ended, the city was left without its leaders and soon its ports were in the possession of pirates. However, due to its importance, the city was quickly taken over and today there is a constant, strong military presence.

Lumikoto - Snow’s Nest

A city founded on the border of the climatic snow line, in the lower reaches of the Ever-Winter Rivers, with the purpose of serving both as a resting place between Sorrow’s Den and Northern Lodge, as well as an instance for observing the horrendous birds of prey of Carrion Wood. Due to the steep and rocky coasts, Snow’s Den is not particularly suitable as a port town, and the locals mainly fish for a daily living.

Surunsija - Sorrow’s Den

A great city between Breezing Heights and Widow’s Tear lake. Long before the founding of the kingdom, and the First War, the people of Eastern Synk’maa fought several battles for the leadership of the region with the indigenous people of the time. The warriors of the Western Synk’maa from the southern side of the Beartooth Mountains also participated in those battles, shedding blood for the party that paid the most. Due to the suffering experienced over the years, the heavy casualties and losses in the battles, the city got its current, woeful name.

In the First War, Sorrow’s Den was an unofficial territorial and political border between the Loyalists and the Shadow Kin. A great number of battles took place in its area, which boosted the meaning of the city's name even more. The history of Sorrow’s Den still weighs on the minds of the locals, making its atmosphere unstable, suspicious and prone to conflict.

Haintörmä - Shark Coast

Originally a small village on the eastern shore of the Middle Synk’maa, where the conquest of the continent and the bloody history began when the armies of the Eastern Synk’maa stepped onto its sands. Today, the village has grown into a city, but the locals inhabit it less and less often. Shark Coast is more of an unofficial base for the Royal Fleet of Eastern Synk'maa, as well as a central meeting place for Spellblades and other scattered factions around Synk’maa. In addition, due to its location, Shark Coast is considered a gateway to the Middle Synk’maa, where anyone traveling the world can find practically anything they can think of.

Välimatkan Kylä - Village in the Middle

A small port town in the southwestern archipelago, founded during the Age of Woes as a stopping point for shipping in the southern half of Synk’maa after the First War. In the Village in the Middle, every guest is welcome, regardless of their background, and the first-class alcohol products distilled by the locals find their way to the throats of thirsty travelers quickly. The drunken folk are then caressed and attended by the pleasure workers, available all day and night. Even though the place is a haven for free-spirited sinners, peace breakers and arrogant stragglers are thrown into the icy sea without question.
