Northern Synk’maa: Other Locations

Vallisaari - High Wall Isle

The coastal walls of the island reach intensely high and steep from all sides, making reaching its top impossible without proper gear. Only a few extreme adventurers have managed to climb on top of the High Wall Isle, only to witness its barren, snowy slopes, without gaining anything of value for the reward of their burdens.

However, there was one expedition, whose members claimed to see a towering mountain somewhere far in the north, where the world is supposed to be ending. Their reports were claimed as ramblings of madmen and hysteric women, who had collectively lost their minds. But if they were lying, why did all of them die in mysterious circumstances within a year after their expedition? And if the thing they saw were more than just a hallucination, there would be more in this world than just the realm of Synk’maa.

Mustat Tunturit -Black Tundra

In the beginning of the Age of Woes, the people of Far Away and Farthest North claimed to witness an unknown, gigantic entity to descend from the sky, screaming high pitch noise that caused overwhelming pain in those who happened to hear it, ultimately falling to the hillside area northeast from Farthest North. A group of scholars and warriors were sent to investigate the matter, and according to their reports, they found a large circular area in the snow, colored black as soot and coal, without any traces of burning. In the middle of the circle was a great hole, like an entrance going deep under the tundra, which happened to collapse before any members of the expedition got to inspect it. The incident was never investigated any further, yet the memories and stories still remain vibrant.

Ikitalven Vuoret - Ever-Winter Mountains

The mythical Well of Lore resided in the deep darkness of the caverns of Ever-Winter Mountains, only seen by a few individuals throughout the ages, of which the only person to ever write about their findings is Sister Luna, a white mage. Sadly, there is only one existing copy of her journal entries, kept in Far Away’s main library’s locked chambers, available only to the white mages of the city.

The mountains withhold many valuable minerals and metals within, mined by the folk of Farthest North in the past. It is confirmed that many horrendous beasts and monsters keep the mountain caves as their home, and the people of Farthest North have witnessed this in many painful ways.

Syväjärvi - Depths

Most likely the deepest lake known in the whole Synk’maa, according to the various scholars. Not a single diver has managed to reach its bottom even with the help of magic. Another factor making diving and swimming in the lake is its insurmountable coldness and the meters-thick ice covering the surface almost throughout the years.

Kaukaisen Joki - Far Away River

A river named after the city of Far Away, located downstream. It is the only stream strong enough in the Northern Synk’maa to prevent fully freezing during the winter time. The reason why the folk of the continent made their homes around the river’s downstream back in the day.

Ulvova Metsä - Howling Woods

In times before humans built Far Away and Farthest North on the soil of the Northern Synk’maa, the continent’s dominant species were a breed of wolves, great in size and colored snow-white. Even today, there are countless packs roaming the wilderness of the north, left alone by humans, as long as they stay far away enough from the cities.

The largest pack, including thousands of wolves, resides in the Howling Woods. The northerners respect, and fear, the pack’s immensity, never entering the forest. It somehow seems that the wolves of the Howling Woods are more intelligent than their canine relatives around the realm, being capable of observing and evaluating humans and their intentions.

Ulvova Saari - Howling Isle

A great island, completely covered by trees and vegetation, opposite the eastern shore of the Howling Woods. The strait between the island and the mainland freezes completely during winter, forming a path for the wolves, bears and other animals to travel between them.

A few centuries ago, a certain nobleman from Far Away moved to the island with his wife, who was rumored to be a powerful witch, to build a great mansion and establish their home there in solitude. The members of the family aren’t seen in Far Away, or anywhere else, almost at all, as their servants run all the needed errands in the city. There have been some times when the family's offspring have accompanied the servants on their visits, and the rumor has it the children have unusual beast-like traits. Additionally, it seems the family members have a bond with the wild animals of the area in a way that shouldn’t be possible by any means.
